C-SPAN is thrilled to announce the prize-winning documentaries in the StudentCam 2026 competition! In our 22nd annual contest, we received entries from nearly 4,000 students from the U.S. and abroad.
In this semiquincentennial year celebrating the 250th anniversary since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, we asked students in grades 6-12 to create a short (5:00-6:00 minute) video documentary on either a historical or contemporary topic that relates to the competition theme:
“America’s 250th Anniversary”
Exploring the American Story through the Declaration of Independence
Students are asked to create a 5- to 6-minute documentary that explores the enduring impact
of the Declaration of Independence by examining:
(1) its influence on a key moment from America’s 250-year history
– or –
(2) how the values stated in the foundational document touch on a contemporary issue impacting you or your community.
We’re so proud of every single student who participated and poured their hearts into their videos this year! Completing a project like your StudentCam documentary is a powerful achievement, and we know many of you dedicated weeks—maybe even months—of focused energy to researching, storyboarding, scripting, interviewing, and editing. We feel incredibly lucky to have viewed so many fresh and meaningful perspectives on topics that matter deeply to you and other young people.
Even if your documentary didn’t win a prize, we hope you enjoyed the process of learning new skills and bravely sharing your voice with the world. Keep creating, keep speaking up—your stories have real power to inspire and spark change. Take a moment to celebrate your achievement because you should be incredibly proud of what you’ve accomplished! Watch your email inbox for an opportunity to receive a special gift from C-SPAN. Later this spring we’ll be sending a small token of our heartfelt thanks for your hard work and creativity—it’s our way of saying “well done” and “keep shining!”
